According to forign media reports, by the end of November 2025, the amount of aluminum imported by the EU from Russia had exceeded the annual quota. According to data from Eurostat, the actual import volume was estimated to be 6% higher than the permitted limit.
As part of the 16th round of sanctions, the EU has banned the import of primary aluminium from Russia. It plans to completely prohibit imports by the end of 2026, and the allowed import volume in 2025 is 275,000 tons per year.
According to the statistics of this agency, in the first 11 months of 2025, the EU imported 290,700 tons of aluminum from Russia. Among them, during the reporting period, Italy and Poland were the largest importers of Russian aluminum, with their imports accounting for one quarter of Russia's aluminum exports; Spain ranked second, with imports almost on par with those of Italy and Poland (accounting for 22%), and Greece ranked third (accounting for 11%).
